Site Preparation on a Sloped Block in Kanimbla

We took on the site preparation for a residential block in Kanimbla. The lot was overgrown and uneven, with long grass covering a sloped parcel. A real estate SOLD sign on the front noted the block at 702 square metres, and there were homes under construction nearby.

First job was clearing the vegetation so we could see the ground and set out the works. Once the grass was off, we brought in a Kubota tracked excavator to start the bulk earthworks.

The block sits on a slope, which is common up here. That meant careful cut-and-fill to bring the house pad area to the right levels. We cut into the red soil on the high side and moved material to build up the low side. A surveyor worked alongside us with a level and staff on a tripod, so the heights were set properly rather than by eye.

Managing water flow mattered on this one. On sloped ground, getting the falls right early stops drainage headaches later. We shaped the pad to suit the natural grade and worked the levels back to what the build needs.

Once the pad was cut and shaped, we compacted it to give the builder a stable platform. The exposed red soil is typical of Far North Queensland ground, and it holds up well once it's worked and compacted correctly. This kind of work sits alongside the earthworks we do across the region.

Doing the groundwork right at this stage keeps the project moving. It's the sort of prep that avoids structural movement and costly delays down the track. There's not much to see when it's done well, and that's the point.

By handover the builder can move straight onto the pad and get started. We left the site cut, shaped and compacted to the set levels.
