Retaining Wall Replacement and Turfing in Kanimbla

A residential property in Kanimbla had a failing retaining wall and an old timber fence that needed to go. The before shots show aged segmental concrete block walls, timber edging and a rock-edged pond with algae-covered water. The area was overgrown and starting to move.

We removed the old timber fence and the failing wall first. Then we prepared the site so we could build on solid ground. The slope needed proper stabilising before anything else could happen.

The new wall is built from horizontal concrete sleeper panels set between galvanised steel posts. One section has timber bench seating and steps built into the wall, so the space is usable as well as structural. The charcoal sleepers sit tidy against the dark metal boundary fence.

With the wall done, we laid fresh turf across the yard. The ground came up level and clean. We also formed a new garden bed with edging, ready for planting. There's a stacked-stone feature wall in the finished area too.

It's straightforward work, but it makes a difference. The yard went from a patchy, overgrown slope to a level lawn with a solid wall holding it all in place. The bench and steps give the family somewhere to sit and an easy way up the grade.

The finished result is a safer outdoor area that's easier to look after. The old pond and timber edging are gone, replaced by turf and a bordered garden bed. The last thing we did was tidy up the new garden bed edging along the fence line.
