Retaining Wall and Turf in Kanimbla

This Kanimbla property had a sloped block running along the side of the house. The ground next to the dwelling needed holding back, and the surrounding lawn areas needed sorting out. We were brought in to build a retaining wall and lay new turf.

We started with the excavation. The excavator cut a trench along the boundary beside the house, working through the red soil and cutting the slope back to a workable line. It's the part of the job most people never see, but the wall is only as good as the ground it sits on.

Once the trench was ready, we set the steel posts on concrete footings along the line. The pallets of plain grey concrete sleepers were stacked on site, waiting to go in. With the footings cured and the posts standing, we placed the sleeper panels between them to form the wall. This one was built as a double level, so it steps up the slope rather than running as a single tall face. It sits well against the boundary beside the house, and the stepped run follows the fall of the ground.

Behind the wall we laid crusher dust across the levelled area. That gives a firm, tidy surface on the higher ground behind the sleepers. We did similar earthworks on a sloped block for our site preparation in Kanimbla, so this kind of ground is familiar to us.

With the wall done and the crusher dust in, we supplied and installed new turf across the surrounding lawn areas to finish the job.
