House Pad and Concrete Slab Construction in Gordonvale

A new home in Gordonvale needed a solid house pad before anything else could start. The block was red soil, typical of the area, so getting the ground right mattered as much as the pour itself.

We started with the site excavation and levelling. Gordonvale ground needs proper compaction and drainage sorted before you put concrete down, so we took our time on the prep. Once the pad was set, we cut the foundation trenches for the footings.

Steel went in next. The slab was reinforced, with reo starter bars left protruding around the perimeter and at the internal footings so the frame ties in later. You can see the stepped footing edges running around the slab edge in the photos. The plumbing rough-ins were set into the slab before the pour, with a stub left ready for connection.

Then we poured the slab. We ran a Kubota U55-4G excavator and a tipper truck on site through the earthworks and the concreting stage. Because we did both the earthworks and the concreting, the client had one point of contact for the whole foundation stage instead of juggling two trades.

The job sits in among other homes going up nearby, with framed roof trusses already showing on a neighbouring block. That's the stage this pad is now at too.

It's straightforward work when the prep is done properly. The pad came out level and the steel is set for the builder to take it from here.
